At the beginning of the 18th century, Queen Wu Wei decided
that it was prudent, since it could not be avoided, to let some of the
powerful European commercial companies establish enclaves on the islands
of the Southern Archipelago. In order to restrain their well-known
avarice, she had them agree to a number of unusual rules and condition.
The most unusual rule divided the archipelago into imaginary north-south
(vertical) strips, which she called "meridians". The
"meridian" rule limited each company to just one enclave in each
meridian. In this game, each player represents one the powerful commercial
companies and the rules of the game are very similar to those that were
devised by the legendary Queen Wu Wei.
