Moneywise Kids rose out of the frustration of an involved
parent. Karen Orr Godfrey volunteered as a math aid at Eberwhite
Elementary School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She knew that games are
excellent motivators. But she soon found that not every game is the
right game. Many math games were too boring, frustrating, or
complicated. Some children even ended up in tears!
So Karen created Moneywise Kids, a simple but captivating money math
game. Young children have no trouble following the rules. Both
players get to "win" (no more tears!). Plus, Karen's students
actually beg to play it - the ultimate measure of a good game.
Little do they know that Moneywise Kids is also a lesson in fundamental
math skills that every elementary student must know and a great way to
teach money management at home or at school.
Game Concept: Practice making change while
